The gutters – and by extension, their design, including gutter color – may not always be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking of rounding out your exterior design. Gutter color, however, can make an aesthetic statement on your roof and complete its look.
In today’s blog post, we compile a few tips on how to choose the right gutter color for a more cohesive design.
The first rule in picking a gutter color is to remember that it should complement the other components of your façade, such as the roofing system and your siding. In particular, roofing specialists recommend that your gutter color should complement or accentuate the existing color of your roof trim or its base, including the fascia.
In addition, mind the gutter material. Copper gutters, for example, develop a rust-like coating called a patina while stainless steel gutters remain pristine over their lifetime.
Well, not exactly, but colors generally come into two tones: warm or cool. Warm tones fall into the redder spectrum while cool ones are bluer. Gutters installed in homes with tile roofs or brick walls can use a warm tone, such as red or browns, while homes with metal roofs or neutral-colored siding can ideally go with a cool color, such as blues and grays.
In some communities, your homeowners’ association (HOA) may dictate exterior design styles or colors. If your neighborhood has a uniform style, it’s prudent to stick with what works instead of being the odd one out on the street.
