Roofing Through The Winter

Roofing in the winter is something we are proud to offer at Renaissance Roofing. We have to change certain procedures but roofing in the winter is in fact possible. For roofing contractors cooler weather is sometimes a welcome relief to the hot summers but it also means its time to adapt to the winter roofing season. Yes, asphalt shingles can still be installed successfully in cold weather, with the proper care.

A new roof in the winter involves some additional challenges. The temperature needs to be taken into consideration because at extremely cold temperatures, asphalt shingles can become brittle and break. While we get some pretty cold weather in Oregon, we rarely get temperatures so low that we can’t install roofs during the day. One of the tools we use to install roofs on very cold days is solar power! Since asphalt holds heat so well, we set the shingles facing the sun and let them warm up before we install them. Because days are shorter in the winter, roofers have less daylight to get the roof complete. It’s also important to keep in mind the safety of the roofers since the roof can be a slippery surface to work on in the winter. As with any roofing job, it’s important that roofers are tethered to the roof so that if they were to slip, they would be stopped before a fall. Lucky for us in Oregon we deal with rain and windy weather but we only get a brief time of freezing temperatures and possible snow. This makes it more possible for us to safely install roofing all year.

We will make sure to always take the weather and temperatures into account when we schedule your roofing job during the winter months and all year round weather can change unexpectedly and we have to be prepared to make changes accordingly. Roofing in the winter has a lot of pros including often times a more comfortable work environment for your roofers. During the summer roofers deal with the hot sun and higher temperatures on the roof, while the winter offers cooler more manageable temperatures. Roofing in the winter allows us to be able to fix your leaks or damage before it gets worse. You don’t have to wait until summer to get your leaky roof replaced, we can get it done any time of the year. Renaissance Roofing is your company for a new roof any time of year. We look forward to helping you with all of your roofing needs this year.
