Gutters for Every Budget: What Options Do You Have?

There are a large number of gutter options these days. It means you no longer have to break the bank to give your roof a reliable drainage system. You may even find products you can install yourself if you wish to put some sweat equity in your project.

Low-End

Vinyl and aluminum are two of the most affordable gutter materials available on the market. They are perfect for DIYing because of their lightweight. As with most gutters these days, K-style is the default design of vinyl and aluminum ones. They are six-inch wide at least and can be bought with thicker materials in snow country for lasting performance.

DIY vinyl and aluminum gutters are sectional, which means you will deprive yourself of a seamless system if you choose them.

Also, doing the heavy lifting with yourself and your friends may save you on labor. But you could sacrifice workmanship quality if none of you had formal training and proper equipment.

Midrange

In the middle of the pack is steel. Apart from its inherent strength, this alloy can resist rust for a long time when galvanized. Steel gutters are too heavy for most do-it-yourselfers so it is wise to hire help for their installation.

High-End

Copper and zinc are considered premium gutter materials because they are immune to rust and develop patinas instead as they age. Although copper and zinc gutters are popular among historic houses, either of the two can enhance the beauty of any roofing systems, including modern and contemporary ones.

Which gutters are the best? There is no easy answer to that, for many factors have to be carefully considered to pick the right one for your house.
