How to Be a Good Neighbor During a Remodel

If you you’re going to remodel your home, you’re probably very excited. However, before your dream home becomes a reality, you have to contend with the noise and the mess. Unfortunately for your neighbors, they have to deal with all that as well. Fortunately, your remodeling project doesn’t have to be the cause of strife in your neighborhood. To help you out, roof leak repair expert Renaissance Roofing, Inc., has these tips to share:

  • Tell Your Neighbors in Advance – A lot of the time, maintaining the peace means making sure people know what’s happening. In the case of your remodel, it can be something as simple as letting your neighbors know as soon as possible when the work will begin as well as your expected time frame.
  • Take Into Consideration Your Neighbors’ Schedules – Keep in mind that some people work from their homes or have small children, so noise may be a problem even during the day. Talk to your contractor about setting hours for the remodeling work to accommodate other people’s schedules as much as you can, and let your neighbors know of these hours.

Additionally, be mindful of using up street parking spaces for contractor vehicles and equipment, and possible debris from roofing or siding work that might find its way into your neighbor’s property.

  • Bring a Peace Offering – Proactively put your neighbors in a good mood before your remodeling begins, and they’ll likely be more patient with the noise and mess you bring afterwards. A bottle of wine or some baked goods will go a long way in winning you favors, especially when you know a neighbor will be particularly inconvenienced.
