Rain Diverters: What Exactly Are They?

Gutters help protect your home from severe water damage and preserve its structural integrity. Ideally, the whole system runs throughout the entire roofline to ensure water is directed away from your home. However, this configuration isn’t always used. Sometimes, gutters can’t be installed in select parts of the home due to aesthetic issues.

How, then, can these gutter-less areas of the home be protected from cascading water? Enter rain diverters. R

Moving Water Sideways

Rain diverters are a simple, formed strip of metal fitted beneath the roof surface to direct water sideways. These are often placed on the roof above the home’s front entry. There, the diverters shift water away from the doorway, keeping people dry as they enter or exit the home on rainy days.

Rain Diverter Profiles

Rain diverters are available pre-fabricated in either one of the two profiles: J- or L-profile. They are fastened down with screws under the shingle course above and secured with sealant. The tapered top edge is slipped beneath the course to make it sloped and allow for proper drainage. Both profiles can be thickened to make the panels stiff. For this, you need an expert roofer to help install these for you.
